About Livestock Cartage

Midlands Rural Transport provides efficient, safe, and reliable livestock cartage throughout the Central Plateau region and the greater North Island. Whether looking to transport stock to sale yards, to the meat works or in between farms, our livestock crates are modern, well-maintained and will keep your animals safe and comfortable throughout their journey.

With depots in Taupo, Broadlands, Rotorua, Hastings and Taumarunui. We run HPMV permits on all our trucks, allowing us to run at 58 tonnes, about 27,5 tonnes of stock weight. We can cart any livestock. On average per year we cart 1,200,000 sheep, 565,000 cattle, 20,000 deer and 14,000 goats.

In November 2022 Midlands Rural Transport acquired Jack Turner Transport which is based in Taumarunui. Jack Turner Transport has been a thriving business in Taumarunui for over 80 years. It most recently has been run by Karl Adams. Karl will remain on as an owner driver.

Safety

We operate in accordance with a strict health and safety plan which includes looking after the health and welfare of both our staff, your staff and the livestock that we transport. We use late model/new vehicles for reliability and have a team of truck mechanics who follow a strict maintenance schedule on all our stock cartage trucks.

Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is at the forefront of our minds when it comes to livestock cartage. Minimising stress and avoiding any harm to the animals is an important part of our transportation process. All drivers are accredited through the Livestock Transport Assurance programme, which includes on the job training in handling livestock with care.
